A twist of turns and then some

Monday, November 10th, 2008

This past weekend I met a few friends from high school for dinner, some whom I haven’t seen for a very very long time. See, that’s the thing about moving back to the state where you went to high school - most likely there are a ton of people from your yesteryears who either (a) still reside in the same state, or even the same city (b) have moved back to the state because now they have kids and want to be closer to the (grand)parents (c) crazy like us who moved back even though the (grand)parents have moved out of state already.

Get-togethers with old pals are fun. You talk about the old days, and talk about the years in between when you haven’t seen each other. There’s SO MUCH to talk say! Oh yes, there are other people that you both know and will inevitably end up talking about too.

And so we did.

Oh my. What surprises! Turns out there were at least 2 classmates that came out. One came out after getting a divorce - I’m not sure if any children were involved. Thinking back to the old days, I don’t think any of us had an ounce of inkling about it. Heck, I’m assuming this person didn’t even know until after their divorce.

Just goes to show you, nothing is certain except the uncertain.

Lest you think I’m homophobic, I spent a good couple of hours making arguments with another friend some time ago when out of nowhere he presented me an instant message that said something to the effect of how he thinks gay marriage ruins the institution of marriage and how it is against God’s plans. In the end, we agreed to not talk about this topic or anything remotely similar ever again.

I’m still quite shocked that at least 2 people I went to high school with have came out.
