Couple of weeks ago, my husband and 5yr old son had this conversation after he voted in a school mock election.

We were a bit surprised, because we had never talked to him about politics at all, let alone explain what the election was about and who the candidates were.

Yesterday, we took both kids to the polls in the morning before school started. We hope they will understand the importance of taking an active role when it comes to things that could affect them, the importance of exercising the right they have regarding in choosing who their leaders would be. It is a right not to be taken lightly.

A friend (from another country) said, in their country, kids don’t even know when elections take place, unless it’s a school holiday. They are not involved in any way whatsoever, as if elections do not affect their lives and their future. America is beyond amazing in comparison.
