Thousand Hands for Thousand Tasks

It’s at times like this when I wish there’s more than one of me. At least, I wish I had more hands than an octopus, or maybe similar to this.

I’ve really slowed down in writing posts. What’s the popular phrase? A picture is worth a thousand words? So here is the short answer to why I have been sporatic at best with this whole blogging thing.

That’s 108 boxes. They all arrived on the same day (same time!). We’re still not done sorting through them, yet more and more are arriving almost daily getting us ready for the holiday season. I feel as though I’m juggling 25 different projects and none of which have 100% attention dedicated to them. Somehow, miraculously, most of them get done albeit not as timely as I would like. But some things have to give and that is blogging (and house keeping).

Speaking of projects, did I tell you we outgrew our house and are now operating out of a 3,000 sq. ft. office/warehouse? I’m sorry I didn’t announce this momentuous milestone sooner. We moved earlier this summer and have been very happy with the new location! That’s probably the biggest news, but there are so much happening with our business that it’ll probably have to be done as a separate blog post.

Last weekend we went to a local apple orchard. It was a SUPER splendid and nice day to be out, enjoying apple-picking and pumpkin rolling.

Picking apples made easy with this contraption.

Pushing giant pumpkins up & down the hill.

I think that was the last batch of nice weather for a long while. The temperature right now is only 36F (actual feel-like 28F) with strong winds the entire day. Brrrr! I think I’ll make some apple pie and apple cider with the 24+ lbs of apples we brought home.

BTW, this new blog layout is temporary I think (thanks for noticing archana!). There are quite a few things that I’d like to tweak, for instance, my cool list of blog roll is now gone into the Internet Black Hole that will require some time to get back.. if possible at all.

This is a boy-story, for sure

Every now and then I create silly stories with the kids, and it usually starts with me providing some basic structures and they fill in with imaginative objects / names / actions. Here’s the story from tonight, between our 5-yr old Sebastian and Mom (that would be me).

Mom: Once upon a time, there was a _____

Sebastian: Poop

Mom: and his name was _____

Sebastian: Stinky

Mom: and he liked to _____

Sebastian: go swimming in the toilet. And he likes to get flushed away. And then he walks out of the toilet and jumps on the floor. HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Omaha Children’s Museum Bubble Recipe

Several weeks ago, we went to the Omaha Children’s Museum and saw a cool “Bubble Show” where this guy showed kids the various ways bubbles can be made and some of the physics behind bubbles, in kids terminology. It was a nice show, even for us grownups.

The museum shares their recipe with all those that wants it. So here is a homemade bubble recipe that you can try. It’s in humongous proportions… so, share it with some neighbors and playdates and let everyone bring some home in a bottle. Have fun!

Omaha Children’s Museum Homemade Bubble Recipe
* 5 cups water (40 oz)
* 1/2 cup of corn syrup (4 oz)
* 3 cups dish soap (24 oz)

Mix and let sit overnight. Add more dish soap if bubbles seem to pop too easily. Solutions will last about 1 week.

Why corn syrup? Corn syrup works to help thicken the bubble juice and keep the water from evaporating as quickly. Evaporation is what causes most bubbles to pop in mid air. If you want an even better professional strength bubble juice, replace the corn syrup with Kosher Grade Vegetable Glycerin. Results will vary based on brand of soap (we recommend Ultra Dawn or Ultra Joy) water quality, and humidity.
