Before the frost arrived

We used to live in the state that prides itself to be “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” We used to take the lakes for granted, driving on the frozen surface with our vehicle (OK I drove while everyone else in the vehicle freaked out), treating it as a nuisance at times because by golly that’s where the bazillion mosquitoes breed their gatrillion offspring!

Well, we don’t have that problem now. In this new city, there are very very few bodies of water. There are some, but seems to me quite a few are man-made. It’s just not the same.

One never realize what one has until it is gone.

It’s funny you should mention this as we’re preparing to close up the cabin for the winter (unless we actually get snow then we’ll reopen). I grew up living on a lake; but after my sister & I graduated from high school & went on to college and marriage my parents decided they’d had enough and moved off the lake.
The first year it was odd - not having a place to dip your toes in the water. The second year it was worse. And, the third year it became unbearable & my dad went out & bought himself a cabin.
You have no idea how good you’ve got it until it’s gone -so you go get it back.

    I love that picture!

I’ve lived near a Great Lake my whole life, and couldn’t imagine not being near one. We also live near two small lakes which we love.

It’s really true that you don’t miss things until they are gone; having lived by the ocean my entire life, when I spent some time in Vermont, I felt constantly imbalanced without the ocean nearby.

Are there ducks on any of your man-made bodies of water? Ducks can be immensely cheering.

What a beautiful place. I lived in south east asia my whole life, and it is not a pleasant place. I did go to college at Adelaide, South Australia and I love it. I have been wishing to move there since then.

    Thanks for visiting my blog
