Halloween

Seb and Fiona were very excited to go to school today, more excited than usual! Today they got to wear their costumes to preschool!!!

Seb wore a Doctor’s costume (from last year - it still fits and that’s what he wanted) and Fiona wore a Tigger outfit from when Seb was younger. I took pictures of them this morning. I’ll put it here once I get them downloaded.

I had this great idea of giving them cool looking animal masks (paper / cardboard type) and then giving them each a cape. But they didn’t want to have anything to do with those. I think they take it after their mom and don’t like anything on their faces. Plus Fiona was so tickled that she got to have a “tail” on her Tigger pants that I just couldn’t resist. :-)

Happy Halloween everyone. The scary part has yet to come — I’m participating in NaBloPomo. So you’ll see a post here every single day for the next 30 days. Well, that’s the idea anyway. Whether I actually follow through is another story (I did complete it last year!)

Quotes Tuesday

“When angry, count to four. When very angry, swear.”

— Mark Twain

.
.
.

As part of my strategy for NaBloPomo, I’m going to do a quote each Tuesday. Sometimes it will be accompanied with a story that inspired the desire to put the quote here. Other times it’ll be a lazy day with just the quote. As always, I invite you to add your own inspirations / thoughts / etc about the quote-of-Tuesday.

Good things coming

I typically do not subscribe to horoscope readings or fortune tellers.

I was on some website and it said I have a “NEW horoscope” for today. Well now, who can resist NEW?! :-) I was not disappointed, because this is what it said:

“The line between your family and your career is starting to get blurry — and that might not be such a bad thing. Blending your two worlds right now will enable you to operate more efficiently in both of them. You will be able to be your entire, whole self all the time — which means your ideas will be more valuable and your emotions will be more complete. Embrace this change in your life and try to push any anxieties away. There are good things coming.

Are all horoscopes so generic that no matter who is reading it will feel a connection to it?! Is that the whole idea behind it? I really did feel a tug in my heart when I read that. I think The Universe knows that we have many challenges ahead, to make a name of ourselves, and to blend family and work life together in a way that we’ve not done before.

Embrace. Good things are coming.

It’s always something or another

As told to me by Hubby.

This afternoon the kids were playing threading with their Baba. They both like to do things with their hands and threading beads is a perfect activity to keep them busy and occupied, not to mention it greatly helps with hand eye coordinations, fine motor skills and patience.

They were using this Haba Threading Beads set. It comes with 72 pieces (6 different shapes) and 3 long strings, just the perfect number of strings.

Things were going good, until they (Seb) decided it was too quiet…

Fiona “Look! This is a necklace,” proudly showing off her creation to Baba.

Seb “No, that’s a budoodah.” (he likes to make up words, and he also likes to aggravate little sister from time to time like a brother would, knowing this will definitely irritate her).

Fiona “NO! It’s a necklace!”

Seb “NO it’s a budoodah”

Fiona, now frustrated, screams “NOOOO! It’s a neck-LACE!”

Seb, smiling, fully aware of what he’s doing, “NO it’s a BUDOODAHHHH.”

Fiona CRYING/SCREAMING “NOOOOOO it’s a NECKLACE” and then proceeds to strike Seb with her hands, in an attempt to quiet him.

Glad I was not there doing the referee work. So when do siblings stop fighting like this?! Never?? SIGH.

Big brother

This morning around 6a.m., our petite little Fiona tried to pull Hubby off the bed, without any success.

“Come on, I want gummy bear” is met with silence.

Seb enters the scene. He whispers to Fiona “Hi, what are you doing? Do you want gummy bears?”

“Yes.”

Seb says, “Gummy bears are all gone. Mama have to go buy some more.” (indeed, the gummy vitamins are all gone)

“I want gummy bear! Baba, come on!”

Seb, “I’ll help you. Let’s go get M&M’s.”

Both kids are SUPER SUPER early risers. They usually wake up between 5:30-6:30a.m. Every. Single. Day.

NaBloPoMo, again

Last year I participated in NaBloPoMo. I crossed the finish line with flying colors, although the contents weren’t always earth shattering or even close. But I did “meet” some great people and continue to read their blogs to this day, and some who continue to read mine as well.

I’m gonna try it again this year.

A line that the kids love to use on each other or on us grown ups, seizing the opportunity to get close.

Peas in a pod

Hubby and I had a 93% match on the pet peeve quiz (on facebook). How crazy is that.

Happy Friday thought.

This is the quiz. You are to rank the 10 items below in order of most to least annoying (the order of the list is not what I would put). What is emo? I don’t know either..

  • penny pinchers
  • emo
  • stubbornness
  • bad drivers
  • people who flake
  • rudeness
  • poor hygiene
  • excessively flirty
  • indecisiveness
  • messiness

    VoIP - Vonage referral

Are you paying too much for your land line telephone services? Have you ever considered trying out VoIP - Voice over IP? There are many VoIP options out there, but Vonage is one of the bigger ones.

If you’re already thinking about changing to Vonage, let me know so we’ll both get some bonus. Email me and I will “refer” you. What that means is you will get TWO months free, instead of the commonly advertised ONE month free (and I will also get two months free).

I’ve been using VoIP providers for a long time now and generally happy with the service, and although we recently switched to Vonage, so far it’s been good.

You can manage your account online. You can view calls online, receive voicemails in your email inbox! and many features such as call waiting, caller ID, FREE unlimited calls to all of US and Canada, FREE calls to several European countries, very low costs calling to other countries, not to mention GREAT sound quality. And what’s cool about numbers being portable, you can still keep the phone number that you currently have, if you want to make the switch.

p.s. I didn’t get paid to write that. Although if you do sign up using the referral link that I would send you, I will receive benefits in the form of 2 free months.

    Those drawings are actually legit

A month after we moved here, back in June, I won something for the very first time in my life. It was not the prize that mattered, which of course is truly appreciated, but the thing was that I had won something! Me who during her high school After Pr*m Party didn’t win anything with her raffle ticket, but the number before and the number after mine both won over $100 cash each. That’s a lot of money, especially to a high school student. My disappointment was not at all concealed when the last digit of the raffle was read both times.

All that changed in June. My luck at contests and drawings had changed. I won an annual family membership to the local science center! As we were already members, they agreed to make it a gift certificate to the gift store instead. I was SO happy, even though there are very little that I truly want at that gift store.

Then a few days ago I got a call telling me I had won something! A few days prior I had gone to the local women’s expo and literally signed up for everything under the sun :-) I didn’t really think I’d actually win anything, in fact, I was worried what I’d say when/if they call and ask me to buy stuff. So what did I win?

This morning a Mary K*y lady came and presented some products, gave me some tips about make up, cleansers, bronzers, foundations, etc etc., showed me how to apply this and that. Which, if you know me in real life, you’d know that I had obviously missed a crucial lesson for being feminine / womanly / ladylike (or what society’s standard is anyway). I use regular soap and water as a cleanser and hardly ever put anything on my face or my lips, which might explain why I have not-so-perfect skin. Anyway, I get $25 off whatever I wanted to purchase, no minimum purchase required. Have any of you used/using Mary K*y? Also, did I get suckered because this is how some home-business-party-type of products make their initial sales?

In any case, I’m happy :-) Maybe I’ll even start wearing some lipstick.
