I want a change
As if there aren’t enough changes around here, I want to redo my hairstyle. I have the itch. I have sported this same hairstyle for most of the last oh 20 some years, it’s only a matter of difference in length. And when it is short, I want it long, and vice versa. Right now it is a few inches past my shoulders. You know, the typical lazy style. No bangs, tied into a ponytail most of the time. Straight hair. Black (ooooh I found a sparse white hair or two!!!). Overall verdict: very boring.
I want a shorter haircut, one that is on the low maintenance side. STOP laughing. That was really not an oxymoron. I won’t be able to spend a lot of time on doing it up everyday, so low maintenance is a must.
I browsed around a few free virtual makeover sites, uploaded my picture, played around a bit, but haven’t really found one (site, and hairstyle) that is satisfactory. Although I have NO CLUE what the difference between “highlights” and “lowlights” are (WHAT is the difference??), I really like the look by adding a different tone (or two) into my hair. However, I probably won’t like how much it will cost me, and the cost to maintain it, so I’m likely not to get any of that at all. There’s also the factor of chemicals — I’ve had enough toxic chemicals pumped into my body to last 3 lifetimes, do I really want to add some more just to jazz up my hair every few weeks/months? Are those chemicals even considered toxic?
What sort of colors go well with black, as far as highlights/lowlights are concerned? What sort of hairstyle would you give me, who is petite/short with a round face, if you were a stylist? What hairstyle have you always wanted to try out?

Sending lots of good wishes to your mom and your whole family. (I was away for a while, sorry.)
I go for dramatic hair changes as often as possible– my philosophy is that it will grow back or I will learn to be cute without it. (I have shaved it down to nothing, too, after some unfortunate home dyeing experiments…it was no maintenance and every so often I think I should try it again.) I often tell my stylist to go crazy and try whatever she likes. I get cuts I’d never have tried before, and they’re usually much better than what I would have asked for.

I don’t know if you can do lowlights with black hair because I think lowlights are streaks that are darker then you hair color. I could be wrong though.
I find that layers between my shoulder and chin work good on my round face.
