I'm not opposed to alcohol either, but it does seem strange to me to have it at playgroup...anyways, its hard not to believe that the wine had something to do with nobody showing up. Thats rude.

Hi,

I saw your question over at Moxie's and got curious :-)

If it helps, I'm 31 and have *never* been drunk. I have major fear of vomit, so that's helped prevent a lot, in addition to being very small/lightweight (I assume my tolerance is very low). Plus I am not the type to want to lower my inhibitions in public, so it's just never happened.

I go to a playgroup on Tuesday afternoons, 3-5 pm. The kids are (at the moment) 16-21 months. The idea of wine would be laughable. It's a religious (Orthodox Jewish) crowd--not teetotalers by any means, but, wow, I could not imagine it. The kids are at an age where they need to be watched carefully. They are just learning to play together, take turns, not scale the dining room chairs...so even conversations among the adults can be tricky. It's quite typical in this community to space kids 18mos-3 years apart, so two of us are pregnant now, and it would not surprise me at all if someone else is by the end of the summer--and usually people don't announce they are pregnant until 14-15 weeks, so people wouldn't want to raise red flags.

Anyway, it does seem odd to me that people would mix wine and an event that is, hypothetically, about their kids. Especially since, I'm guessing, this is not a weekend event? Maybe I am too goody-goody to even imagine this. Or only used to really socializing with my husband by my side.
