What would I do?

Well, first of all, does your boss know you're pregnant? If so, then I would contact a lawyer, and ask for their advice. As a former lawyer of a large corporation (and the former Chief Counsel of a medium-sized one), if I found out one of the managers of the company was trying to lay-off a pregnant woman, I would've lost my ever-lovin' mind.

So if your employer knew you were pregnant, I'd seriously consider telling my story to an attorney -- State Bars often have 1-800 numbers or referral services where you can get some quick answers. Check out your state's bar organization and ask for their advice.

This is NOT to say that you're going to get rich off of these people. But, if they've done something wrong, sometimes a letter from an attorney can "encourage" them to give you a couple of weeks' extra severance, etc.

Just a thought. Best of luck, whatever happens.

Severance package? Ha. They gave me (and everyone else) the bare minimum required by law, which is 2 weeks pay.

I haven't decided if I want to look for something else, or stay at home with the active toddler. It would be a challenge to stay home with him, especially when I have this hematoma thing and I'm suppose to take it very easy. The good thing is, we can financially make it if I stayed home.
And the job market, at least in this industry, is limited at the moment--hence the slow down and eventual layoff. Plus, if all goes well with this pregnancy, I'll be due in September.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I'm sorry. It sucks to have that happen at any time but you definitely didn't need the extra stress now.

That sucks. Don't worry about the things you want, just the things you need for now (Okay that came off sounding like assvice. Ignore at will.) My sub jobs have been fewer and far between, so I might as well be unemployed. They've been laying off full-time teachers around here as well. Oh well, I hated that job anyway.

I guess we just have to be aware of "new opportunities" that may arise.

Oh no!! That really, really sucks. What is the job market like where you live? Do you want to look for another F/T position? A little notice would have been nice.

When your head is done spinning, you will have to let us know what you think your plans might be. I hope you got some decent severance pay.
